The town of Šibenik – the centre of the Croatian coast

The Šibenik-Knin region, located in the very centre of the Croatian coast, represents one of the most suitable starting points within the excursion tourism in Dalmatia. It is also known for two national parks – famous waterfalls of Krka and pearls on the sea, Kornati islands, but situated not far away from other two – Paklenica National Park, known among alpinists, and Plitvice Lakes National Park, protected by UNESCO since 1979.

In the medieval town centre of Šibenik there is another Croatian UNESCO monument – the cathedral of St. Jacob, the only construction in the whole Europe made entirely of stone. About an hour drive towards south from Šibenik there are other two UNESCO localities – the Town of Trogir and the Roman palace of the emperor Diocletian.

The Šibenik archipelago offers numerous possibilities for excursions, among which special place belongs to the islands Krapanj (the tradition of sponge processing), Zlarin (the tradition of corals) and Prvić (the island of Faust Vrančić, inventor of the first usable parachute in the human history).
